Renewed Hope for the Future

Time to roll up our sleeves

For many, this election was a referendum on the future of our planet
Would the U.S. government ignore science and blaze past the tipping point? Or would we take responsibility for our mistakes, build back better and leave the planet habitable for future generations?

The science is clear: we must cut global emissions 7.5 percent each year for the next decade if we want to recognize the world our children will live in 20 years from now. Every year we wait—indeed every day—the job gets bigger and more challenging.

With the Biden administration poised to take office, there is cause for renewed hope. It does not, however, mean that we can relax and wait for government to act. It’s time to roll up our sleeves to start implementing solutions that make our buildings safer and more resilient, while also driving down emissions and strengthening our communities.

It’s time to come together for a decade of climate action
We may go faster alone, but we go further together. As Los Angeles’ Best Buildings, this is your opportunity to shine—to lead the way for rapid adoption of the best ideas and technology—and we are offering our Partners several new platforms to do just that:

  1. Zero Carbon Ready Buildings Pilot
We’re partnering with the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to demonstrate a range of approaches to achieve zero net carbon in existing buildings. Contact us to learn how to get involved.

  2. LABBC Innovation Awards
We’ve updated the criteria for our annual awards to showcase the creative ways our Partners are working to enhance health and safety, while continuing to drive down emissions and address important social issues around diversity, equity, and inclusion. Recognize your hardworking team today!

  3. Focus on Small & Medium Businesses
We’re branching out! We’ve broadened our focus to work with small and medium businesses hit hardest by the pandemic. Stay tuned for updates and opportunities to get involved.

Even as we continue to navigate the challenges of a global pandemic, the LABBC is confident in our L.A. Partners’ ability to innovate and find ways to safely get back to work while rapidly driving down carbon emissions.

We thank you for the opportunity to continue to support your efforts as part of Los Angeles’ green recovery.

Sincerely,
