Peak Carbon Emissions Falls, But Faster Decline Needed

The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted all industry sectors and all aspects of our lives. But one positive effect, research shows, was a substantial drop in energy demand, which is estimated to remove some 2.5 years’ worth of energy sector emissions through 2050.

Making Carbon Neutrality Mainstream in Commercial Real Estate

The coronavirus pandemic has provided a glimpse into the challenges and opportunities posed by a more rapid transition to a 100 percent renewable energy future. Update on Benchmarking and ENERGY STAR Certification for U.S. Commercial Buildings Impacted by COVID-19

Due to COVID-19, some of ENERGY STAR’s certification rules have been modified. Please be sure to update your building use details as needed for your building type (see this FAQ for more details) and adhere to the updated guidance in determining when you may apply for certification.

All buildings may now apply for certification with Period Ending Dates (PEDs) up to December 31, 2020 (regardless of whether or not their operations were impacted by COVID-19), with a few exceptions for retail stores, hotels, and K-12 schools.

To allow sufficient time to apply for certification, the deadline for 2020 certification applications has been extended to February 10, 2021.
