Los Angeles is a tourist destination, and hotels are a major part of how millions of people experience our city every year. Increasingly, guests and event planners are considering a hotel’s sustainability credentials as they decide where to book their vacations and events. Certification through the LA Green Lodging Program helps hotels distinguish themselves as a “green” option, and gives hotels a framework to implement environmentally-friendly policies around resource conservation and recycling, pollution prevention, and environmentally preferable purchasing. The LA Better Buildings Challenge offers a range of free services to help hotels achieve their energy and water efficiency goals and move towards certification through the LA Green Lodging Program. Certified hotels have seen significant cost savings, as well as a marked reduction in their environmental footprint, through reduced water and energy use, reduced solid waste disposal, and improved supply-chain management. On top of that, the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board will market your “green” hotel to meeting planners and tourists through their websites and outreach efforts.
